Red Oak, Mirror

Mirror-Main.jpg

The mirror-backed crevasse contained by the envelope of bookmatched Red Oak serves both as intrigue and reflection. It is at once an imaginary porthole into a world just beyond our own as well as a perfect, though obscured, reflection of ourselves.

The lichen bark clad, sinuous live edge bookmatch is framed in beveled Red Oak. An urban salvage tree, this extraordinarily large Red Oak stood watching the Hampton Park neighborhood of Charleston, South Carolina for decades as it evolved through the housing boom following the Second World War and then as the Civil Rights Movement fought to make communities like this inclusive.

Pieces like this are available for commission, in a variety of wood species and scaled bespoke for your space.
