The Apparition series grew out of the biology of bookmatching, thus finding unique pieces of wood that, when joined with their mirror image, came alive. In seven frames, the gesture of bookmatching generates unique apparitions, figures, from a tree’s own history of growth. The life and the images created by this technique, and these uncommon pieces of wood, is heavily filtered by the viewer, not unlike a Rorschach inkblot, serving as a reminder of the life around us and our individual experiences.
